Chatham Saw Mill
The Chatham Saw Mill, the most prominent saw mills in Asia, is the oldest and largest saw mill ever built in Asia and was built to meet the demand for sawed timber. Sawed timber in those days was very much in demand. It was used mainly for construction. This saw mill produced sawed timber for Port Blair and Chatham Island. Today the Forest Department owns the saw mill. The mill was established in the year 1883. The Second World War destroyed the mill badly by the direct hit of many bombs.
